Ani Difranco

Angela Maria Ani DiFranco, an American-Canadian singer and songwriter. Her catalog includes more than twenty albums. DiFranco classifies her music under the terms folk-rock and alternative. But it has influences from hip-hop, punk and jazz. A feminist icon widely recognized as Grammy award winner Ani DiFranco was the founder of the DIY movement, and was among the pioneers to establish her own label 1990. Within 14 months, Ani DiFranco was already writing her own songs. Her teens were spent playing them in pubs and coffee shops. DiFranco completed her studies at her Buffalo Academy for Visual and Performing Arts high school in the year 16, and enrolled in courses at Buffalo State College.
